Rishikanta Singh CWG 2026 silver medal: On the fourth day (26 July, Sunday) of the Commonwealth Games 2026 being played in Glasgow, a big achievement has been registered in the name of India. Manipur’s weightlifter Rishikant Singh Chanambam won the silver medal for India in the men’s 60 kg weightlifting category. Rishikant missed out on winning a gold medal, but by lifting a total of 264 kg and setting a new Games record in the snatch, he has written his name in gold in the history of Indian weightlifting.
Made history by lifting 121 kg
Rishikant lifted a total weight of 264 kg and gave India a place on the podium. With this powerful performance, he also lifted a new Commonwealth Games record of 121 kg in the snatch round.
This lifter from Manipur maintained his dominance since the beginning of the competition. In the snatch round, he lifted 116 kg in the first attempt and 119 kg in the second attempt. Lifting 121 kg in the third attempt, he broke the old record of 120 kg and created a new CWG snatch record. (Although later Malaysian Bin Kasdan Mohd Anik also equaled this record by lifting 121 kg).
He had some trouble in the clean and jerk round and managed to lift 143 kg in just one attempt. However, with the combination of snatch round record and total weight of 264 kg, he won the silver medal.
Has taken special training in Indian Army
Hailing from Imphal West, Manipur, Rishikant Singh is one of the most reliable players in Indian weightlifting today. He underwent his training in the best sports infrastructure of the Indian Army, which served to hone his talent.
Won gold medal in 2025
The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship organized in Ahmedabad in the year 2025 was a memorable moment of his career. In that competition, he won a gold medal and also set a new national record. It was in Ahmedabad that he registered a career-best personal best score of 271 kg, on the basis of which he secured his place for CWG 2026.
