When daughters of leaders took charge

Last week, there was immense pressure on the ruling party at the Center to remove Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from his post. A big reason behind accepting this pressure was that this fire of protest had now started burning in the homes of loved ones. The joining of the daughters of an Assam Gana Parishad minister, a senior BJP MP from Odisha and a former MLA from Uttar Pradesh into this movement has become a matter of biggest concern for the BJP.

Dibisa, daughter of Assam Cabinet Minister Keshav Mahanta, openly participated in the demonstration in Guwahati on 23 July. On the other hand, Archita Sachin Rahar, daughter of BJP MP from Bhubaneswar Aparajita Sarangi and Yashaswini Raje Singh, daughter of former Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Vikram Singh, made sharp attacks on their own party and the government through social media. All these girls belong to ‘Gen Z’ i.e. the modern generation, who were born between 1997 and 2012.

The issue heated up from streets to social media

The sharp attitude of Assam minister’s daughter Dibisa, who came out in support of the dharna and demonstration of students at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, was captured on camera. During the protest, they were clearly heard raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressing their anger over the incident of lathi charge and tear gas being fired on the students. He said that this movement of students was completely peaceful, which was tried to be suppressed forcibly, but these brave students inspired him also to come here.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reacted to this entire matter in a very bold manner. He said how can they be held accountable for what their children say? He clearly said that when children become adults, their actions and statements should not be linked to those of their parents. He also said that if in the future his son also says something that he does not like, then no one needs to be surprised.

Viral Instagram post and clarification of leaders

On the other hand, an Instagram story of BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi’s daughter Archita created a sensation on social media. In this story, sarcasm was made while celebrating the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. However, this post was later deleted. When MP Aparajita Sarangi was questioned about this, she clarified that her daughter is from the ‘Jane Ji’ generation and she had unwisely posted that story with her friends. When he realized his mistake, he immediately deleted it. The MP himself had written a post on social media praising Dharmendra Pradhan’s decision to take moral responsibility.

Former MLA’s daughter also cornered the government

The name of Yashaswini Raje Singh, daughter of Vikram Singh, who was a two-time MLA from Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, is also included in the list of this protest. For the last few weeks, Yashaswini has been openly criticizing the central government and the top leadership on social media regarding the paper leak and the action taken against the protesters in Delhi on July 20. Taking a sharp dig on social media, he wrote that it will be interesting to see how the top leadership will deal with the situation after the public defeat.

Why is this an uncomfortable situation for BJP?

Earlier, BJP had politically coped with the protests during the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) or the farmers’ movement, but this current movement of students and youth has shaken the party from within. The biggest reason for this is that this time the youth and protesting children who took to the streets include the faces of the families of the party’s own leaders and supporters, which has created a new and serious political challenge for the party.
