India’s star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu clinched a historic third consecutive gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026, opening India’s gold account in emphatic fashion on Sunday.
The 31-year-old Olympic medallist delivered a dominant performance, finishing with a total lift of 190kg—comprising 85kg in the snatch and 105kg in the clean and jerk. Her effort not only secured the top podium spot but also set new Games and Commonwealth records in the snatch segment.
Chanu showcased her trademark consistency and composure, lifting 105kg in the clean and jerk to seal victory and complete a remarkable outing. The triumph marks her fourth Commonwealth Games medal, further cementing her status as one of India’s greatest weightlifters.
Earlier in the day, Chanambam Rishikanta Singh had opened India’s medal tally with a podium finish, making it a strong start for the country in weightlifting.
With this latest gold, Mirabai continues her golden run at the Commonwealth stage, underlining her dominance in the sport and providing India with early momentum in the 2026 Games.
