The NEET paper leak controversy is not limited to Delhi’s Jantar Mantar only. After the manner in which students were beaten on July 20, protests by students were seen in different states of the country. In which Bihar also did not lag behind. But an incident that took place during the students’ movement in Siwan, Bihar has intensified the debate across the country. In a video viral on social media, a police officer is seen firing from an AK-47 towards the protesters.
After the incident, the concerned police officer has been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been started into the matter. The issue of RAF jawans using pellet guns on students during the Parliament march in Delhi on 20th July had not yet subsided when this incident from Bihar came to light. Regarding which Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Kumar Jha has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court.
Why is the video going viral?
In the video surfaced on social media, a policeman wearing a blue helmet and bulletproof jacket is seen running towards the protesters. In the video, at least one gunshot is heard and firing is also seen. After this the concerned policeman signals his colleagues to come forward. In the video, another policeman is also seen picking up an object from the ground and throwing it in the direction of the protesters.
How many people were injured in the incident?
Three people injured in the firing incident in Siwan are undergoing treatment at Jayaprabha Medanta Hospital in Patna. According to hospital sources, the condition of all three is said to be stable at present. 15 year old Mohammad Arif is also among the injured. According to family members, he works in a shop and was returning home after closing the shop during the lockdown, when he was shot in the neck. The family told that the doctors have performed surgery and removed the bullet and now his condition is stable.
What did Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi say?
Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav strongly criticized the incident and demanded strict action against the guilty officials. He shared a video on social media, in which a policeman is seen firing towards the students.
Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also reacted to this incident. He said that a similar pattern is being seen in the country. Rahul Gandhi raised questions on the government by mentioning the incident of use of pellet guns on students in Delhi and firing with AK-47 in Bihar.
