Tarlochan Singh will be honored with Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi Memorial Award today

Tarlochan Singh: Former MP and former Chairman of the National Minorities Commission, Sardar Tarlochan Singh, will be honored with the first Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi Memorial Award in a function organized by Punjab Arts Council, Chandigarh in collaboration with Padmashree Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi Memorial Foundation. Under this honour, a cash amount of ₹ 51 thousand, shawl and memento will be presented.

Awards and inauguration of open air theater will be held this evening

The inaugural ceremony of Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi Memorial Award and Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi Open Air Theater will be organized on July 27 at 5:30 pm at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector-16. Speaker of Punjab Assembly Kultar Singh Sandhwan will be the chief guest of the function.

Personality dedicated to minorities and social service

Tarlochan Singh is a personality dedicated to minorities, religion, society and culture, who has carved a unique place in the public life of India through his hard work, foresight, impartial administration and service to humanity.

Inspirational journey from struggle to service

Despite facing the pain of partition of the country in his childhood, he never lost courage. He made education, service and social dedication the basic mantra of his life. After obtaining higher education in economics, he chose the path of public service and discharged every responsibility with honesty and devotion in his long administrative and public life.

Notable contribution in administration and minority rights

Sardar Tarlochan Singh served on many important posts in the Punjab Government including the Information and Public Relations Department, Tourism and Culture Department. He held various important responsibilities from the office of the Chief Minister of Punjab to the Secretariat of the President of India. As Vice-Chairman and later Chairman of the National Minorities Commission, he made notable contributions in protecting the rights of minorities, strengthening religious harmony and constitutional values.

Voice of Punjab and Sikh community raised in Rajya Sabha

He also served as a Rajya Sabha member and effectively raised many issues of public interest in the Upper House. Although he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana, during his six-year tenure he championed the cause of Sikhs and Punjabis across the world. He continued to play an active role on issues to minority rights, Punjabi language, Sikh heritage, national unity and social justice.

Also played an important role in the development of sports

Tarlochan Singh was also the Vice President of the Indian Olympic Association, where he made significant contributions in promoting sports to build a healthy society. He served as a member of the Indian contingent in the Olympics, Asian and Commonwealth Games and also played an important role in the successful organization of the Asian and Commonwealth Games held in the country.

Has also been honored with Padma Bhushan

In recognition of his distinguished public services and contribution, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan in the year 2021.
