New Delhi: In yet another student death reported after the NEET 2026 examination, a 19-year-old girl from Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar died by suicide at her home on Sunday. She was reportedly found hanging at her house. The victim has been identified as Ankita Sangle, a resident of Jalalpur in the Karjat taluka of Ahilyanagar.

The family of the girl said that Ankita died after scoring badly in the NEET 2026 examination. The youngster had reportedly scored only 166 marks in this year’s examination, said her family members.

According to reports the girl had a separate study room, where she used to prepare for the examination through online coaching classes. ON Sunday, she was alone at home as her parents and brother had gone out for some work.

Relatives said that she had been studying inside her room for a very long time. After not hearing any sound for a while, a few family members pushed open the door of her room and found her hanging from the ceiling fan. This happened at around 5:30 pm on Sunday.

The relatives then informed the police and a team from the Karjat police station reached the house. Inspector Hanuman Gaikwad, of Karjat police station said that they recovered a suicide note from the room, where the 19-year-old was found hanging.

In her note, the girl had written that she was taking the extreme step as she was disheartened by her poor performance in the NEET 2026 examination. She also apologised to her parents and brother for failing to fulfil their expectations. Ankita described herself as an “average student” in the note, said the police personnel.

Gaikwad said that Ankita scored 166 marks in the NEET re-examination, while the cut off this year was 177. The Karjat Police have registered a case of accidental death in the matter.

Member of Parliament Nilesh Lanke visited the home of the deceased student to offer condolences to the bereaved family. He held the government responsible for the girl’s death.

Lanke demanded that those involved in the NEET paper leak, should be held responsible for the girl’s death and a case must be registered against them. According to reports, Ankita had performed better in the NEET exam held on May 3, which was eventually cancelled due to a paper leak, said her family.
