Jaaved Jaaferi Reveals How He Created Manav's Look in 'Dhamaal': 'I Wanted Him Childlike, Not a Caricature'

Veteran actor Jaaved Jaaferi says bringing his beloved character Manav to life in "Dhamaal 4" involved meticulous work on every aspect of the role, from his costume and voice to his body language, to ensure the character remained innocent rather than exaggerated.

Speaking about his approach, Jaaferi revealed that director Indra Kumar gave him a simple brief: Manav is childish, unintelligent, but fiercely loyal.

"Director Indra Kumar had told me Manav is childish, stupid but loyal. So I thought of the dungarees look and worked with the costume team to give him a unique appearance. But I didn't want it to become too caricaturish. It had to feel childlike, but with a certain balance," Jaaferi told PTI.

The 63-year-old actor said he also altered his voice and physical mannerisms to make the character more believable.

"I completely removed the bass from my voice and added a slight lisp. My body language was slouched and floppy because I wanted him to look physically weaker than the others. Even his voice had to be softer," he added. ALSO READ: Dhamaal 4 Review: Same Treasure Hunt, Same Chaos, But the Laughs Are Missing

Strong Box Office Run

Dhamaal 4 continues to enjoy a successful run at the box office. On its third Saturday, the film collected Rs 4.50 crore across 5,195 shows, taking its domestic net collection to Rs 143.47 crore and gross domestic earnings to Rs 170.7 crore. Its worldwide collection has reached Rs 194.11 crore.

Despite its impressive performance, the comedy is facing stiff competition from Christopher Nolan's Hollywood epic The Odyssey. Based on current trends, the film may find it difficult to surpass the Rs 200 crore mark worldwide.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh recently praised the film's steady box office performance despite the competition. Sharing his views on X, he wrote:

"Dhamaal4 closes Week 2 on a healthy note… While TheOdyssey emerged as a powerful competitor, Dhamaal4 held its ground, with the mass circuits continuing to drive its business."
