A rise in new coronavirus cases has sparked concern. Fears have intensified, particularly in South India, following the emergence of additional COVID-19 cases. Andhra Pradesh, which was already dealing with 39 cases, has reported 10 new infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total count to 49. This has raised the possibility of a new wave of the virus.
According to a *Times of India* report, while the COVID-19 crisis is unfolding in Andhra Pradesh, cases have also been reported in North India; however, fatalities so far have been confined to South India. The detection of 10 new cases in Andhra Pradesh has caused alarm in the region. The Health Department stated in its bulletin that the state's total case count has now risen to 49.
Significantly, these cases are spread across multiple cities, raising fears that the virus has moved beyond a single location to affect several urban areas.
According to the bulletin, the 10 new cases include three from Guntur district, two from NTR district, and one each from Alluri Sitarama Raju, Eluru, Krishna, Tirupati, and Visakhapatnam districts. So far, 302 suspected samples have been tested in the state, with 49 returning positive results. Regarding the outbreak's distribution, East Godavari has reported the highest number of cases at 11. This is followed by Guntur (9), Kadapa (8), Visakhapatnam (5), and NTR (3). Kakinada, Eluru, and Bapatla have reported two cases each, while other districts have recorded one case each.
How many patients have recovered so far?
Of the 49 COVID patients, 24 are currently hospitalized and undergoing treatment, while 16 are in home isolation with mild symptoms. Five patients have recovered and returned home so far. Meanwhile, four people have died.
The administration is currently on high alert due to the daily emergence of new cases, and the Health Department has stepped up surveillance across various districts. District Rapid Response Teams are closely monitoring patients' conditions and tracing their contacts to identify and test individuals who may have been exposed to the virus. The department states that RT-PCR kits are available for testing patients. Hospitals are making robust preparations for COVID-19; in addition to setting up dedicated COVID beds, there is an adequate supply of medicines, PPE kits, and other essential items.
