Dark clouds have arrived over Gujarat, and it has been raining heavily. Hotels, however, are witnessing a different kind of downpour: wedding bookings. Once considered an off-season for weddings, the monsoon is fast emerging as a popular choice, with couples drawn to picturesque backdrops, better deals and more affordable venue packages. From luxury resorts to city hotels, hospitality players say demand is steadily rising as more families embrace rain-kissed celebrations. According to wedding planners, affordability is the biggest driver behind the trend. Krunal Parekh, a wedding planner, says, “Couples today are more practical and experience-focused. If they can get a premium venue, better value, and the right planning, they’re happy to consider monsoon weddings instead of waiting for the peak season.”

‘Hotels offer better value during this period’

Monsoon weddings are more than just an emotion—they also offer better financial value for many couples. Krunal says, “July and August are witnessing the highest demand, with popular hotels getting booked 6–12 months in advance. Budget is the biggest driver behind this trend. With fewer wedding dates available in the upcoming season, many couples are opting for monsoon weddings to secure their preferred venues. Hotels also offer better value during this period, making luxury weddings more affordable.”

Since this is not the peak wedding season, it gives couples and their families greater leverage to negotiate. Dhaval Karelia, Corporate Revenue Manager of a chain of luxury hotels and resorts, adds, “Wedding packages are more reasonable, as the overall wedding demand is lower. Monsoon weddings are also becoming a trend among couples. For our Daman property, wedding demand has increased by around 15% to 20% year-on-year. We have received more wedding enquiries mainly from Surat, Vadodara, Vapi, and nearby markets. On average, we host three to four monsoon weddings every year.”

‘Monsoon weddings require real-time monitoring’

Rather than viewing rain as a challenge, wedding planners encourage couples to embrace it as an opportunity to create unique, romantic, and unforgettable moments that often become the highlight of the celebration. Keyur Patel, a wedding planner, says, “We always anticipate weather-related challenges well in advance and recommend venues or structures such as glasshouses, air-conditioned German hanger structures, or weatherproof domes supported by proper civil work. This ensures that even if there is a sudden downpour, the guest experience remains seamless without any last-minute disruption.”

Talking about the efforts behind these monsoon weddings, Keyur says, “Monsoon weddings require real-time monitoring and proactive ground management. Our team closely tracks guest arrivals, flight schedules, traffic conditions, and local transportation. We maintain constant communication with guests and hospitality teams, allowing us to make quick adjustments when required. Being physically present on the ground and staying vigilant is key to ensuring smooth operations. Monsoon weddings can still be more economical than peak-season celebrations. While there are additional costs for weatherproof structures, air conditioning, and contingency arrangements, the overall scale of these temporary setups is often carefully controlled and optimised. Venue rates and accommodation costs during the monsoon season also tend to be more attractive, helping couples achieve better value for their budget.”

Monsoon weddings have driven average occupancy rates of nearly 65–70% at some hotels, reflecting a growing preference for celebrations that blend grandeur with thoughtful hospitality. Vikas Sood, general manager of a Gandhinagar-based luxury hotel which will be hosting five monsoon weddings this season, says, “What guests increasingly seek is not simply a venue, but a thoughtfully curated experience where every member of the family feels cared for. We strive to create a wedding experience that is uniquely personal to each family. From bespoke catering and personalised butler services to wellness-led touches, and event spaces that can be adapted with technology and precision to suit the scale and style of each celebration, we believe a wedding should feel effortless for the hosts and memorable for every guest.”

“We welcomed a strong influx of wedding bookings recently, primarily hosted in our elegant indoor venues. We have also seen a notable rise in smaller, more intimate celebrations at our poolside restaurant, offering a vibrant yet cosy setting. Following a significant surge in demand this July, we have a robust pipeline of bookings in the months ahead. The market is increasingly gravitating towards highly themed, sustainable and intimate weddings,” says Prashant Chadha, General Manager of an Ahmedabad-based luxury hotel.
