Delhi School News: Under the 'Child Protection Month' campaign in the capital, 1,677 schools were inspected; 774 of them failed to meet safety standards.

Delhi School News: Serious lapses regarding student safety arrangements have come to light during a large-scale inspection of Delhi schools. As part of the 'Child Protection Month' campaign, 1,677 schools have been inspected so far, with 774 failing to meet safety standards. The highest number of deficiencies was found in private schools. Schools found with lapses have been directed to make improvements and will now be subject to special monitoring.

The inspection drive was conducted between July 13 and July 24. Officials stated that the checks were carried out using a 'Student Safety Checklist' based on guidelines from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), and the POCSO Act.

Deficiencies found in 774 out of 1,677 schools inspected

The inspection covered government, government-aided, MCD, NDMC, Delhi Cantonment Board, and private schools. The 1,677 schools inspected so far include 790 government schools, 812 private schools, and 75 government-aided schools. Deficiencies related to safety arrangements were found in 270 government schools, 463 private schools, and 41 aided schools. According to officials, private schools showed the highest number of safety-related lapses relative to the total number of schools inspected.

Campaign launched on the instructions of the LG and CM.

This campaign was initiated following a review meeting held on July 6. During the meeting, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure a timely inspection of safety standards across all schools in the capital as part of 'Child Protection Month'.

Re-inspection After Rectification

Schools found to have safety-related deficiencies have been instructed to carry out necessary improvements. Once the remedial work is complete, these schools will undergo a re-inspection to verify that the shortcomings have indeed been addressed. Officials state that the campaign is not merely a formality; actual rectification will be confirmed. The inspection teams comprise parent representatives, officials from the Directorate of Education, the Department of Women and Child Development, and the Delhi Police, as well as the heads of the respective schools. These teams are evaluating schools based on established safety standards, and immediate corrective action is being initiated wherever deficiencies are found.

All 5,633 Schools to be Inspected

According to officials, the campaign will continue until all 5,633 schools in Delhi have been inspected. The initiative aims to make child safety an integral part of the permanent system within schools and to foster a culture of accountability, safety, and preparedness across all educational institutions.
