Bank of Baroda Data Breach: A claim of a major data leak to Bank of Baroda, which is among the big government banks of the country, has come to light. In reports to social media and cyber security, it is being said that about 1TB of bank data has been leaked on the internet and dark web. However, Bank of Baroda has not yet officially confirmed this claim. In such a situation, there is no need for customers to panic, but it is important to remain alert.
What is the whole matter?
According to reports, a threat actor i.e. a person calling himself a hacker has claimed that he has obtained a large amount of data by breaking into the system of Bank of Baroda. He has also reportedly shared some samples of the data and download links. A user named Srikant has posted a screenshot of this alleged data leak on social media platform He has demanded investigation in this matter by tagging many government agencies including Reserve Bank of India (RBI). At present, this claim has not been independently verified.
What information is claimed to be leaked?
Reports say that the leaked data may include customer names, mobile numbers, email IDs, Aadhaar numbers, bank account information, net banking records, loan documents, corporate banking data and some internal files of the bank. If this claim proves true, then cyber criminals can misuse this information.
Are customers’ money at risk?
Just because data is leaked does not mean that money will automatically be withdrawn from the bank account. But if someone gets access to your personal information, he can deceive you and try to get OTP, UPI PIN, password or net banking information. This is why customers need to be more cautious than before. The bank never asks for OTP, PIN or password through phone, message or email. Therefore, immediately become alert on any such demand and do not share the information. However, till now no official statement or press release has been issued by Bank of Baroda regarding this alleged data leak.
