Sanju Samson: After the T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson said that now he will play cricket by his own decisions. He shared Virat Kohli's advice, his self-confidence and his experiences of assuming responsibility in Team India.

After winning the T20 World Cup, Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has made a big revelation about his career. He said that now he will not be influenced by the opinion or criticism of others and will play cricket based on his own decisions. Samson also told that an important advice he received from Virat Kohli had a deep impact on his career and thinking.

Now I want to stay out of the 'rate race'

In Jiostar's show Believe, Sanju Samson said that there is constant comparison and competition regarding cricket in India, but he had decided even before the 2026 T20 World Cup that he would not be a part of this 'rate race'. He said that now his aim is just to enjoy the game. According to Samson, he will take full responsibility for the team, but now only he will decide how to bat and how to play his game.

Virat Kohli's advice changed thinking

Samson also shared an anecdote from a camp of the Indian team. He told that during practice in the gym, he had asked Virat Kohli for the mantra to become a better player. Virat told him that a disciplined lifestyle is most important to make a long career in international cricket. Samson followed that advice for about one and a half years, but later he could not maintain the same discipline continuously. Nevertheless, he admitted that Virat's professional thinking still inspires him.

Confidence becomes the biggest strength in the World Cup

Samson said that before the semi-final against England, many people reminded him of his old records against Joffra Archer, but he maintained confidence in himself. In the final against New Zealand, he prepared himself mentally to take the responsibility of the team. According to him, past experiences taught him to be patient and this confidence proved important in Team India winning the title.
