New Delhi: An important news has come to light for the customers associated with public sector Bank of Baroda. Media reports have claimed that about 1TB of customer data to the bank has allegedly been leaked and attempts are being made to sell it online. However, this claim has not been officially confirmed by the bank. In such a situation, customers are being advised to remain alert instead of panicking.
How can online fraud be done?
According to reports, the leaked data is claimed to include customer names, mobile numbers, Aadhaar numbers and some other personal information to banking. If such sensitive information comes into the hands of cyber criminals, then attempts to commit online fraud by targeting people on the basis of it may increase.
KYC name fraud
Cyber security experts say that such information can be used in cyber crimes like fake bank calls, phishing links, fraud in the name of KYC update and identity theft. Fraudsters may pretend to be bank officials and try to obtain confidential information from customers like OTP, UPI PIN, ATM PIN, CVV or net banking password.
However, just the news of data leak does not mean that money will automatically be withdrawn from the customers’ bank accounts. But if a person is not alert and falls prey to fraudsters and shares his confidential information, then the risk of financial loss may increase.
Do not trust unknown calls or emails.
If you have an account with Bank of Baroda, do not trust any unknown call, email or SMS. Get information only through the bank’s official website, mobile app or verified messages. Do not share OTP, UPI PIN, ATM PIN, CVV or Internet Banking password with anyone under any circumstances. Before clicking on any suspicious link, please check its authenticity.
How to file a complaint
If you notice any unusual activity in your account or suspect any kind of cyber fraud, immediately contact the customer care of the bank. Apart from this, you can lodge a complaint on the National Cyber Helpline 1930 or you can also lodge your complaint through the National Cyber Crime Portal.
