Pakistan found themselves in a commanding position at the close of Day 2 of the first Test against West Indies, finishing on 199/3 in response to the hosts' 311, a fightback largely orchestrated by former captain Shan Masood.

Masood, playing his first Test since stepping down from the captaincy, looked in sublime touch, remaining unbeaten on 88. He found a reliable partner in Imam-ul-Haq, who contributed a solid 63 as the pair stitched together a crucial 155-run stand that steadied the innings after Azan Awais fell early to Kemar Roach.

Masood reached his half-century off just 46 balls, displaying intent and authority. Imam brought up his 11th Test fifty before falling, while new skipper Babar Azam added 23 late in the day. Salman Agha stayed alongside Masood at stumps as bad light forced an early close.

Earlier, West Indies were bowled out for 311, with Shai Hope top-scoring at 92, just eight short of a well-deserved century. Kavem Hodge made 84, while Shamar Joseph chipped in with a quick 23. Pakistan's bowlers pulled things back superbly, with Mohammad Ali bagging four wickets and Mohammad Abbas claiming three, including a key strike with the second new ball.

With Masood still at the crease and the pitch offering little trouble, Pakistan will fancy their chances of building a substantial lead on Day 3.
