Shreyas Iyer may have led India to a flawless 3-0 sweep over Zimbabwe, but the new T20I captain was quick to share the credit, especially with interim head coach VVS Laxman.

After a difficult start to his captaincy stint, which began with a 0-4 T20I series loss in England, Iyer bounced back in style in Harare. Laxman, who took charge in the absence of regular head coach Gautam Gambhir, was full of praise for his skipper.

"I would like to specially congratulate Shreyas," Laxman said in a BCCI video. "He had a rough start, but the way he came back right from day one, he was so optimistic. A lot of credit for this victory should go to him, the way he encouraged each player."

With only four or five players from the England tour joining the Zimbabwe squad, Iyer had to knit together a relatively inexperienced group. And he did so with remarkable ease.

In turn, Iyer thanked Laxman for keeping the dressing room upbeat. "We were flawless, honestly, throughout the series barring the catches we dropped. It was a phenomenal effort by everyone, including the support staff," he said.

Gambhir is set to return for the Test tour of Sri Lanka in August, but Laxman's brief stint has left a lasting impression and given Iyer his first trophy as captain.
