India Shines at Commonwealth Games 2026: Day 5 Highlights and Upcoming Events

The Commonwealth Games 2026 are currently taking place in Glasgow, where India is actively competing in various sports including athletics, weightlifting, boxing, and swimming. On Tuesday, Gulveer Singh is set to participate in the men's 10,000m final, while Pooja Singh will compete in the women's high jump final during the evening session. In boxing, several Indian athletes will enter the quarterfinals, including Preeti Pawar, Priya Ghanghas, Kapil Pokhariya, and Jadumani Singh. Additionally, in weightlifting, Nirupama Devi Seram and Harjinder Kaur will be competing in their respective finals. Swimmer Srihari Nataraj will kick off his campaign in the 100m backstroke heats and may also advance to the semifinals.


Day 5 Highlights: India Achieves 10 Medals

India had an impressive Day 5 at the Commonwealth Games, securing four medals and raising its total to 10. A standout moment was Sharmila Dhankar's gold medal in the women's shot put F57, marking her as the first Indian to win gold in para athletics at the Commonwealth Games. Shilpa K. Shyla also benefited from a Nigerian athlete's disqualification, earning a bronze medal and contributing to India's double podium finish. In athletics, Sarvesh Kushare claimed silver in the men's high jump, while Murali Sreeshankar and Lokesh Satyanathan qualified for the long jump final. The weightlifting team added three more medals: Gyaneshwari Yadav won silver, Bindyarani Devi took bronze, and Valluri Ajaya Babu secured silver. Progress was also made in boxing and swimming, with several athletes advancing to the next rounds, although some, including Tejas Shirse and Sumit Kundu, were eliminated from their events.


India's Medal Count So Far

The medal tally for India includes gold medals from Mirabai Chanu and Sharmila Dhankar, alongside five silver and three bronze medals across weightlifting, athletics, and para powerlifting.
