The Tata Group has experienced a remarkable fivefold increase in profits over the past six years, driven by investments in aviation, semiconductors, and digital initiatives. According to the FY26 annual report, Tata Sons recorded a 21.8% increase in profit after tax, amounting to Rs 31,961 crore, while revenue rose by 9.1% year-on-year to Rs 42,367 crore. The board has proposed a final dividend of Rs 1,10,717 per share, pending shareholder approval.

In his communication to shareholders, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran noted that FY26 was a strong year for the group in terms of financial performance. He highlighted that Tata Sons' revenue grew by 9.1% to Rs 42,367 crore, with profits after tax increasing by 21.8% to Rs 31,961 crore.

Overall, the Tata Group's total revenue surged by 7.8% to Rs 16.24 lakh crore in FY26, while profit after tax soared by 51.9% to Rs 1.71 lakh crore. Chandrasekaran emphasized that the group's revenue has now reached 2.1 times and profits 5.4 times their FY20 levels, showcasing significant turnaround efforts across the organization.

The annual report also noted the rapid growth of Tata Electronics, which has emerged as the fourth-largest company in the group by revenue, reporting Rs 1,31,082 crore in FY26. Chandrasekaran stated that the company achieved this milestone within just four years of its establishment, with operating profits reaching breakeven.

Conversely, Air India faced challenges, with losses widening to Rs 22,238 crore in FY26 from Rs 10,859 crore the previous year. N Chandrasekaran attributed this difficult year to factors such as airspace closures, increased fuel costs due to the West Asia conflict, foreign exchange fluctuations, and the AI171 crash, labeling it as the most challenging year for Air India.

While analysts recognize the strong earnings growth of the Tata Group, they also express concerns regarding internal governance and shareholder representation.
