Five years after it went into production, Bengali sociological sci-fi thriller Retribution has finally reached audiences, bringing an end to its long independent filmmaking journey.

Directed by Koushik Das , the film was shot in 2021 with a small team working with limited resources. Blending science fiction with social commentary, the film explores themes of justice, trauma and morality.

The film stars Debashis Roy in the negative lead as Ronnie, alongside Aparajita Ghosh , Swati Mukherjee, Deepak Halder and Rohit Basfore. The music has been composed by Nabarun Bose.

Looking back at the film's journey, Debashis described Retribution as one of the earliest milestones of his acting career.

"Retribution was one of my earliest acting projects, and seeing it finally find its audience after five years is deeply rewarding. It's a reminder that passion, perseverance and belief can outlast every challenge," he said.

Recalling the film's production, Debashis added, "When we started this journey in 2021, none of us imagined how long the road to release would be, but we never stopped believing in the film. Every challenge we faced became part of our learning process, and today that journey makes this release even more meaningful."

The actor also reflected on playing Ronnie, a layered antagonist. "I feel privileged to have portrayed Ronnie, a complex negative character that allowed me to explore a completely different side of myself as an actor. Sharing the screen with such a talented cast and working with an incredibly passionate young team remains one of the most memorable experiences of my early career."
