Who Is Saransh Jain? BCCI Rewards Domestic Star With First Test Selection
Cricket Gully | July 28, 2026 4:39 PM CST

Madhya Pradesh batter and all-rounder Saransh Jain has been granted the first call-up to the senior India side. The 33-year-old has been rewarded by the BCCI on the back of his recent exploits in the domestic circuit.

Saransh is a right-arm off-break bowler and an able left-handed lower middle-order batsman. Like-for-like replacement for Sundar, his all-round skills will give India another spin-bowler batsman+finisher.

Reward For Years Of Consistency In Domestic Cricket

Saransh is one of the most consistent performers in the Indian domestic circuit for over a decade. He has made his impact felt in the domestic circuit, having played his First-Class for Madhya Pradesh in December 2014 and found himself as one of the team's most prolific all-rounders.

Since then, he has represented Madhya Pradesh, Central Zone and Rest of India with distinction. In First-Class cricket, he has taken 181 wickets and scored 2,223 runs, showing his worth with both bat and ball.

Cricketing genes run through his family. His father, Subodh Jain, also bowled right-arm off-break and represented Madhya Pradesh in 9 Ranji Trophy matches. Despite falling short of donning the Indian jersey, Saransh has finally attained this dream by making his inaugural Test selection.

His career changed dramatically after he worked under the guidance of experienced domestic coach Chandrakant Pandit; under his tutelage, he came up from a squad player to a reliable match-winning all-rounder.

Saransh was also an integral part of the very first but historic Ranji Trophy win in Madhya Pradesh history in 2022. He scored an important first-innings fifty sharing a vital partnership with Rajat Patidar in the final against Mumbai at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, and took some valuable wickets, helping the team gain a critical first-innings lead.

Strong India A Performances Earn National Recognition

The Saransh selection committee under Ajit Agarkar honoured Saransh for his consistent displays for India A against Sri Lanka A. He succeeded the most in the second unofficial test, taking six wickets and getting a shining not-out 70. All-round performances proved he has the qualities to do well in the spin-friendly subcontinent conditions.

Paradoxically, despite the fact that he has achieved considerable elevation in the red-ball formats of the game, Saransh has not at any point participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL). 2024-2025 and 2026. He got no taker at any of these auctions. He even made the final list of eligible players in the preceding auction, but no franchise bid for him.

Thus, after long years of toil in domestic cricket, Saransh has finally received the biggest reward of his career. The upcoming Test series provides him a chance to show that steady domestic performances can go a long way in paving the way to the Indian team.
