In the month of Sawan, lakhs of devotees from different parts of the country come here to have darshan of Baba Baidyanath.

It is believed that the wishes of the devotees who worship Baba Baidyanath with true heart are fulfilled. This is the reason why Baba Baidyanath is also called 'Kamna Linga'. Baba Baidyanath Dham located in Deoghar, Jharkhand is considered one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. This place is also known as Babadham. According to religious belief, Lord Shiva is present here in the form of Baidyanath Jyotirlinga. This place is very special for Shiva devotees. Especially during the month of Sawan, the atmosphere here becomes completely Shiva-like. Devotees travel a long distance by filling Ganga water in Kanwar and offer water to Baba Baidyanath. During this time the entire road echoes with the chants of Bol Bam and Har-Har Mahadev.

The story of Baba Baidyanath is related to Ravana's penance.

According to mythological belief, Lankapati Ravana was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. He wanted to please Lord Shiva and take him with him to Lanka. For this he performed rigorous penance of Lord Shiva. It is said that Ravana performed severe penance to please Lord Shiva. When Lord Shiva did not appear for a long time, Ravana started cutting his head and offering it to Lord Shiva.

It is believed that Ravana had offered his nine heads to Lord Shiva and when he was about to offer his tenth head, Lord Shiva appeared before him. Lord Shiva was pleased with Ravana's devotion and penance and agreed to grant him a boon. Ravana expressed his desire to Lord Shiva to take him to Lanka. Lord Shiva accepted his wish, but put a condition along with it.

Lord Shiva had put this condition before Ravana

According to religious legend, Lord Shiva handed over his Shivalinga to Ravana and said that he could take it to Lanka, but he would not have to keep it on the ground anywhere on the way. If the Shivalinga is placed on the ground, it will be established there and then it cannot be removed from there. Ravana set out towards Lanka with the Shivalinga. But on the way he felt a desire to have a small doubt. At that time he gave it to a person to hold the Shivalinga. According to the story, that person was the form of Lord Vishnu. When Ravana returned, the Shivalinga had been placed on the ground. Ravana tried hard to lift it, but the Shivalinga did not move from there. Eventually the same form of Lord Shiva was established in Deoghar. This place later became famous as Baba Baidyanath Dham.

Why is Baba Baidyanath called 'Kamna Linga'?

The deep faith of the devotees is behind Baba Baidyanath Dham being called 'Kamna Linga'. There is a religious belief that the devotees who worship Baba Baidyanath with a true heart and come here with their wishes, their wishes are fulfilled. Due to this belief, Baba Baidyanath is called 'Kamana Linga'. Devotees coming here pray to Lord Shiva for fulfillment of their wishes. It is believed that Baba Baidyanath listens to the true calls of his devotees and fulfills their wishes.
