Rawalakot, 28 July 2026: Firing at protesters Tension remained unchanged in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Pakistani security forces had taken strict action against the people protesting against the elections in Rawalakot, as a result of which many people lost their lives. Nevertheless, the protesting leaders have resolved to continue their agitation.
Eyewitnesses claim that 14 people were killed in police firing in Rawalakot yesterday evening. Imtiaz Aslam, a key member of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), said, “Pakistan terrorist forces today fired on our innocent youth. As a result, 14 of our youth were killed.”

He further said, “I strongly appeal to Kashmiris living abroad to protest outside Pakistani embassies, human rights organizations around the world and the United Nations (UN).”
Violence broke out in the Drake Idgah area of Rawalakot, where a large number of people were reported to have boycotted the elections and gathered to protest.
According to JAAC and local activists, Pakistani Army personnel, Punjab Rangers and police opened fire on the protesters. It is alleged that they used live ammunition, long-range tear gas shells and deployed snipers at strategic locations.
Demand for international intervention
Following the violence, protesters claimed to have set up barricades on all major roads leading to Rawalakot to prevent additional security forces from entering the city after polling was completed in other areas of PoK.
Local residents also alleged that the authorities had shut down the communication system. According to reports, mobile services, internet connectivity and electricity supply were disrupted in some parts of the area. The situation in Rawalakot was tense. Reports indicate that despite the strict measures, thousands of protesters continued to gather in the city.
