Tragic Toll of Monsoon Rains in Thane: 18 Lives Lost and Hundreds Affected

Thane, July 28 – The ongoing monsoon season has led to the tragic loss of 18 lives in Thane district, Maharashtra, due to rain-related incidents. Additionally, over 790 individuals have been affected by landslides, wall collapses, and flooding, as reported by local authorities on Tuesday. According to the district administration, two fatalities were recorded on Monday alone.


The report from the district administration indicates that 17 people have sustained injuries from various rain-related incidents during the current monsoon. This district, adjacent to Mumbai, has experienced heavy rainfall for several days this month, resulting in wall collapses and waterlogging in multiple areas. Since July 24, four individuals have gone missing due to flooding and submersion in water bodies, with search efforts currently underway.


The report further highlights that a total of 797 individuals from 229 families have been impacted by landslides, wall collapses, river flooding, and other rain-related disasters. These individuals have been accommodated in relief camps. The heavy rains have caused either complete destruction or partial damage to 187 houses.


Moreover, the intense rainfall and winds have also damaged five huts, a community building, and an anganwadi center. The report notes that three poultry farms in the district have suffered losses due to the adverse weather conditions. The district administration is actively engaged in relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas.
