Gunners are hoping to land the Brazilian as their big summer signing

The Brazilian winger came onto the Gunners’ radar over the weekend and is now into the final 12 months of his current contract. Standard Sport understands that Arsenal have still not made a formal approach for the player.

It is understood, though, that they are ready to put forward a staggering contract in an attempt to tempt him away from Madrid, where he has played since 2018.

Discussions over a fresh deal for Vinicius broke down last season, but Real are still eager to hand him a long-term extension, with talks expected to restart in the next few days.

For now, however, the Brazilian is not expected to turn up for pre-season training until his future is fully decided.

He had been due back at Valdebebas by the end of the month, but he will remain away from the club’s training ground until a new contract has been signed and completed.

Vinicius is believed to be leaning towards extending his Real deal rather than forcing through a move this summer. The gap in valuation between his demands and Real’s offer is not thought to be significant, although it remains to be seen whether either side will back down.

New Real head coach Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, is unwilling to allow him to leave the club.

Arsenal are expected to go after a headline signing this summer after they were beaten by Chelsea in the race to sign Morgan Rogers.

Vinicius’ salary demands could still become a major obstacle, though. He currently earns around £400,000 per week and is pressing for a pay increase.

Real are also close to completing a deal for the highly sought-after winger Yan Diomande, although his possible arrival is not expected to affect Vinicius’ future because the young Ivorian can play across the front three.
