Jadon Sancho has been given an unexpected chance to relaunch his career after attracting interest from Qatari club Al-Rayyan. The winger is now looking for a permanent base after leaving Manchester United as a free agent, drawing the curtain on an unsuccessful five-year spell at Old Trafford.

Sancho is still only 26 and still has the technical quality that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting attackers at Borussia Dortmund.

But inconsistent displays at United, along with mixed loan spells, have hurt his standing.

A switch to Qatar would bring financial security and regular game time, though it could also make a return to an elite European league much harder.

As per Foot Mercato, Al-Rayyan have put forward an offer to sign Sancho without paying a transfer fee.

The eight-time Qatari champions are hoping to make use of his availability as they aim to bring another well-known name into their squad.

If the move goes through, Sancho would link up with former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrović.

Al-Rayyan feel the England man could grow into a key attacking player instead of carrying on in a rotational role elsewhere.

Sancho had earlier been linked with another return to Borussia Dortmund, but a rich offer from the Gulf could alter the course of his career.

His next step will depend on whether he puts immediate playing time and a strong financial package first, or keeps waiting for an appealing European offer.

Sancho is still weighing up options in Europe and the Middle East before deciding on his next club.

From Al-Rayyan’s point of view, this is a calculated risk. Sancho is still a talented dribbler who can create chances from either flank, and taking away the pressure that followed him in England could help him regain his confidence.

For the player, though, this looks like a career-defining call. Qatar could provide stability, responsibility and a chance to enjoy football again.

Still, moving away from Europe at 26 may seem too early when his talent should still be drawing interest from clubs in stronger competitions.

Sancho should not turn down the offer straightaway, but waiting for a serious European project would be the sensible option.

The biggest factor is finding a club that can give him a clear tactical role, rather than just taking the biggest contract on the table.
