New Delhi: A Bhopal court on Tuesday extended the jail stay of former district judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh till August 11 in the Twisha Sharma death case.

The CBI informed the court that it needs to question additional witnesses, requesting that the accused remain in judicial custody. Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh will continue to stay in jail until August 11. Earlier, on July 14, the court had extended their custody by 14 days till July 28, news agency ANI reported.

Twisha Sharma was found dead in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on the night of May 12. Her in-laws claimed she died by suicide, but her family alleged that she was murdered.

On July 12, an AIIMS medical team—which conducted a second postmortem ordered by the court—submitted its final report to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a sealed cover. This report resolved a major question about the item allegedly used in the hanging, which was a gymnastics belt with a metal ring.

The central point of disagreement was whether the gymnastics belt with a metal ring was the actual ligature used and whether it matched the mark on Twisha Sharma’s neck.

The initial postmortem could not confirm this because the alleged ligature material was not shown to the medical board at the time of the autopsy.This led the Madhya Pradesh High Court to direct an AIIMS Delhi medical board to perform a second postmortem.

sources indicated that laboratory and histopathological tests confirmed the presence of skin tissue on the ligature material, proving that it matched the injury pattern. However, the medical board’s final opinion remains confidential, as it was submitted to the CBI in a sealed cover per court orders.
