On Tuesday, former Union Education Minister and BJP MP Dharmendra Pradhan received a warm reception from his supporters at Bhubaneswar Airport. A large crowd gathered to greet him. Following widespread protests across the country regarding allegations of a leak in the NEET-UG 2026 exam, Pradhan resigned from his position as Education Minister on July 25. In his resignation announcement, he stated that he made the decision to step down from the central council of ministers in the best interest of students, emphasizing his desire to prevent the youth of the nation from falling into confusion.
Resignation and Commitment to Education
In his resignation letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pradhan reflected on his long and meaningful association with the education sector, reiterating his commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of India's youth. He mentioned that for over four decades, he has been involved with students, teachers, and educational reforms. He has always believed that a strong, inclusive, and forward-thinking education system is the foundation of a robust nation.
NEET-UG Exam Controversy
Discussing the NEET-UG controversy, Pradhan noted that irregularities were identified during the exam held on May 3. He stated that the central government took immediate action in response. Following the discovery of discrepancies in the NEET-UG exam conducted on May 3, 2026, the Indian government promptly took notice, assigned the investigation to the CBI, canceled the exam, and announced a new date for it. Additionally, it was decided that starting next year, the exam would be conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) format.
Gratitude for Support
Pradhan expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for the opportunity to serve as Education Minister and thanked his cabinet colleagues, ministry officials, and staff. He conveyed his heartfelt appreciation for the guidance, trust, and continuous support from the Prime Minister, stating, "Serving the nation is my highest priority in life, and I will always remain dedicated to it."
