Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav said on Tuesday that students in the country can get justice only when there is a radical change in the education and governance system. Talking to journalists in the Parliament House complex, Akhilesh Yadav said that the students’ movement also got widespread support from their families, due to which the movement became so big that ultimately the Central Government had to bow before their demands.

He said that mere resignation of any minister is not enough, but change in the thinking and functioning of the system is also necessary. This statement of Akhilesh Yadav came in the context of the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Dharmendra Pradhan had resigned from his post on Saturday after several weeks of student agitation over alleged irregularities in the examination.

The SP chief said, “Until there is a radical change in the established system, students will not get justice.” Referring to Uttar Pradesh, he claimed that more than 20 exam papers have been leaked in the state. He said most of the youth and students involved in the recent student movement were from Uttar Pradesh.

Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the central government had to bow down due to youth pressure and public support. He claimed that many MPs of the ruling coalition were worried about the fall of the government, hence the government had to accept the demands of the students.

He said, “About 20 lakh students had given the NEET exam. That means about one crore people including their families were directly affected. That is why even the MPs were under political pressure and the government had to bow down.”

The SP president also said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should have been present in the Parliament as the police comes under the Home Ministry. He alleged that during the student movement, the police resorted to brutality on the protesting youth.

On the other hand, discussion on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 started in the Lok Sabha at 2 pm on Tuesday.

Initiating the debate, Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has completed the unfinished work of the UPA government by bringing in strict laws on paper leaks and other irregularities in examinations.
