Manchester United have made a surprise move today in an effort to sign Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall, according to a prominent source on X.
The Red Devils are actively trying to strengthen their central midfield unit ahead of the new season and have identified the 20-year-old Swedish international as a top-level target.
A popular transfer insider account on X broke the story, saying that United have made contact with Spurs to explore the possibility of signing Bergvall this summer.
The report says Spurs have made their position clear by placing a valuation of between £50 million and £55 million on the young midfielder.
“Exclusive Manchester United is making some intriguing moves today in the transfer market. Our sources have revealed that they’ve reached out to Tottenham regarding midfielder Lucas Bergvall. Spurs have reportedly set his price tag at around the £50m-£55m mark.”
While Tottenham are unwilling to part with one of Europe’s most promising young midfielders, their heavy valuation reflects both his huge potential and the security of his contract in North London.
The sudden interest in the player has come after Bergvall told Tottenham’s hierarchy earlier in the transfer window that he wanted to leave.
Since arriving from Djurgården, the Swedish playmaker has shown huge promise and quality, but fierce competition for places in Spurs’ midfield has made him rethink his long-term role.
Bergvall’s availability has immediately alerted several major European clubs.
Chelsea, Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Napoli have all been linked with the midfielder in recent weeks.
However, with Manchester United joining the race and reportedly stepping up to make formal contact while testing Spurs’ determination with a possible £50m-plus offer, the Red Devils are putting themselves at the front of the race to secure his much-sought-after signature before the deadline.
Even with the reported interest, Tottenham are unlikely to allow Bergvall to leave without a substantial offer.
The club regard him as one of the most gifted young midfielders in Europe and have invested strongly in his development since bringing him to North London.
Any move would therefore need Manchester United to match Spurs’ valuation, making this one of the transfer stories to follow closely as the window nears its end.
