Pakistani boxer Fatima Zahra has confirmed the first medal of the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The boxer has reached the semi final of the 60jg category, confirmed atleast a bronze for the nation.
Fatima faced New Zealand’s Jordan Wilson in the Quarter Final and ended up defeating her with 5-0.
The 22-year-old also became the first Pakistan woman to secure a boxing medal at the CWGs.
She will now face Marie Al-Ahmadieh of Canada in the Semi Final that is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
Fatima is an Eight-time National Champion with consecutive titles and National Games gold medals.
Born in Sargodha in 2004, Fatima has been boxing since 2018.
She has previously represented Pakistan at the Asian Games and the Olympic qualifiers.
Along with Fatima, Pakistani boxer Qudratullah will compete in the 55 kg men’s quarterfinal on Saturday.
The Commonwelth Games began in Glasgow on July 23 and so far Pakistan has failed to secure any medal. Meanwhile, Australia is leading the medal standings with 61 medals.
