Arsenal have only just begun to explore what could end up being the finest transfer window in their history.

Arsenal may be champions for the first time in two decades, but the real test is remaining at the summit.

That means major spending this summer, with the Gunners' biggest signing so far being Christos Tzolis on the left wing.

So, with several major moves taking shape over the next few weeks, what would the ideal scenario look like for Mikel Arteta's Arsenal in the transfer market?

The headline move. Arsenal's chase of Vinicius Jr could well be the most ambitious transfer in the club's history, and landing him might instantly turn the Gunners into Champions League favourites.

And bringing in Bruno Guimaraes would not be a poor addition either. Arteta has been missing a true creative passer on the left side of the pitch since Granit Xhaka left, and these two arrivals would genuinely change everything. As they should, for a combined £200 million.

As much as Vinicius Jr would transform the world of Gooners, imagine if they could also land Julian Alvarez. That is very possible too, considering Atletico Madrid's interest in Viktor Gyokeres.

Alvarez may not be as deadly inside the 18-yard box as the Swede, but his movement and energy would bring the players around him into the game in a way Gyokeres has not managed to do. And perhaps taking a cue from Manchester City, Arteta could use a 4-4-2 in certain situations, dropping Odegaard for Alvarez alongside Havertz or Mikel Merino, in a big man/little man partnership designed to break open deep defences. If the Gunners can pull that off for a net fee of £75m, that is a footballing gift horse, isn't it?

Of course, Arsenal can spend around £300m on new attacking talent, but they already have excellent options in forward areas, so something would have to give... especially since they still have reinforcements to add.

Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson are still on the books, while Gabriel Jesus is a shadow of the player he was when he arrived and probably needs a fresh start, for his own sake as much as for the Gunners' wage structure. Noni Madueke, meanwhile, could be one Arsenal see as part of the future as Max Dowman develops.

Then come the more difficult conversations. Arteta has a potential world-beater in Ethan Nwaneri behind Martin Odegaard and Ebere Eze in the pecking order, and as much as the club would hate to lose such a homegrown talent, that is the price of bringing in superstar attackers. The same applies to Gabriel Martinelli, who you feel would thrive alongside his countrymen Vini and Bruno. If Arteta could raise £100m for the pair, though, it might be too tempting to refuse.

Arsenal's title triumph was built on elite defensive foundations, yet with William Saliba, Ben White and Jurrien Timber all picking up injuries over the summer, it would be a risk not to invest in strong competition at the back.

Some answers are already within the squad: White may be better used as cover for Saliba given the strain his body has taken, Christian Norgaard may be trusted more in defence, and Cristhian Mosquera can provide cover across the back line. There are high hopes for 16-year-old Marli Salmon, while you may not find a better right-back than Declan Rice — who may be missed far less in midfield if Bruno Guimaraes is available to cover.

If Arsenal are being sensible, though, stylistic cover for Timber and Saliba should be must-buys in the next 12 months: Lutsharel Geertruida impressed at Sunderland and almost mirrors Timber in style of play, while Zeno Debast fits the profile of a centre-back similar to Saliba. It now looks like a question of how much money remains after the spending spree, with the Guimaraes fee rising from what the club originally wanted to pay and a move for Alvarez not being essential if that record Vinicius Jr deal comes through. The Gunners are juggling several things at once here...
