New Delhi [भारत]July 29 (ANI): After a day-long uproar in the Lok Sabha, Congress MP KC Venugopal launched a scathing attack on the central government on Wednesday. He stressed that despite the "counterattack" from the ruling party, the party remains steadfast in raising the concerns of the students.

Speaking on the heated debate in Parliament, Venugopal stressed that the welfare of the youth is the opposition's top priority. Venugopal said, "The issue of the students of this country is the biggest priority. Our concern is only for the students and parents of this country. We are raising this issue; they (the government) had no answer. When these people do not have an answer, they will try to hit back. Let them do it. No problem. We will raise the issue of the students."

Rahul Gandhi targeted Amit Shah

The remarks come after high drama in the Lok Sabha, where Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the government over the student protests, leading to a war of words. The confrontation reached its peak when Gandhi directly targeted Home Minister Amit Shah, terming his absence from the House as "fear".

Addressing the House, Gandhi remarked, "The Home Minister does not have the courage to come and sit here. He is not here today because he is scared."

Government hit back, Rijiju said 'violation of privilege'

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi's comment on the Home Minister immediately created an uproar in the ruling party. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju led the government's counterattack, terming Gandhi's comments as "irresponsible" and a "breach of privilege".

Rijiju accused Gandhi of demeaning his constitutional post, saying, "This is a baseless allegation. The opposition leader cannot make such baseless claims against a senior minister without any evidence. This is a clear violation of his position and privileges."

Speaker gave advice to Rahul Gandhi

As the uproar escalated and demands for an apology from Gandhi began, Speaker Om Birla intervened and warned the opposition leader to desist from making personal allegations without factual basis.

Speaker Birla told Gandhi, "You cannot make allegations without evidence. This is a House of debate and facts, not for making allegations without any basis."

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2:30 pm. (ANI)
