Indian weightlifting star becomes the first woman to win three consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medals in the sport

CWG 2026: Indian weightlifting icon Mirabai Chanu scripted history at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, winning the women's 48kg weightlifting event with a commanding performance. Moments after standing atop the podium with the gold medal around her neck, Chanu became emotional as she reflected on the people who stood by her throughout her journey.

The Olympic medallist dedicated her latest Commonwealth Games success to her mother and long-time coach, saying their unwavering belief and support helped her overcome every challenge on the road to another international title.

Historic Third Straight Commonwealth Games Gold

With her victory in Glasgow, Mirabai Chanu achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first female weightlifter to win three consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medals.

After previously topping the podium in 2018 and 2022, Chanu successfully defended her title once again in 2026, reinforcing her status as one of India's most accomplished weightlifters.

She finished the competition with a combined lift of 190 kg, registering 85 kg in the snatch and 105 kg in the clean and jerk.
