Knews Desk- The political atmosphere further heated up after the Anti Paper Leak Amendment Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha. After the proceedings of the House, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi held a press conference at Indira Bhawan in Delhi and made serious allegations against the Central Government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. At the same time, BJP termed Rahul Gandhi’s allegations as baseless and demanded an apology from him.
Rahul Gandhi claimed that he did not get an opportunity to present his views in Parliament. He said that the government ministers were given a chance to speak several times, but they were stopped midway. He alleged that he wanted to raise issues to Home Minister Amit Shah, but he was not allowed to do so.
Referring to the recent student protest, Rahul Gandhi said that the police used force on the youth who were protesting peacefully. He alleged that along with lathicharge, pellet guns were also used on the protesters. Rahul said that Delhi Police works under the Union Home Ministry, hence the responsibility for this action also lies with the Home Ministry.
He raised the question who gave permission to use pellet guns on students and who would take responsibility for it. Rahul Gandhi also said that if the Home Minister was aware of this action then he should answer and if he was not aware, then it is still a serious matter.
Rahul Gandhi said that responsibility for the action taken against the students should be fixed. His allegation was that Home Minister Amit Shah avoided answering this issue in Parliament. He demanded that Amit Shah should be removed from the post while fixing accountability in this matter.
BJP reacted sharply to Rahul Gandhi’s allegations. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra said in a press conference that Rahul Gandhi is distorting the facts. He claimed that during the discussion on the Anti Paper Leak Bill in the Lok Sabha, all the prominent speakers including Rahul Gandhi got full opportunity to present their views.
Sambit Patra described Rahul Gandhi’s allegations as an attempt to take political advantage and said that it is not appropriate to make allegations without facts. He said that Rahul Gandhi has tried to spread confusion among the public and for this he should apologize publicly.
