The Patiala House Court has put a hold on the previously issued non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Aishi Ghosh, the Joint Secretary of the Students' Federation of India (SFI), on Wednesday. This warrant was issued in connection with a case registered at the Barakhamba Road police station in 2021.
She is accused of participating in protests, thereby allegedly violating orders from a government official. Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Vijayshree Rathore has suspended the NBW until the next hearing date.
A petition was filed to cancel the NBW, stating that the applicant could not attend the previous hearing due to unavoidable circumstances. The court has instructed her to appear in person on the next date, set for July 30, while suspending the NBW until then.
Background of the Case
Lawyers K.N. Jaishankar, Subhash Chandran K.R., and Jaimon Andrews represented Ghosh. On April 11, 2026, the court had issued the NBW, noting that the report regarding the warrant had returned unserved. It was reported that she could not be found at the given address, although she was informed about the date via phone.
Subsequently, the court issued a new NBW against Aishi Ghosh through the DCP and scheduled the next hearing for July 30. Aishi Ghosh is a former president of the JNU Student Union and a member of the SFI. She contested the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections as a CPI candidate from the Jamuria constituency but lost to Hare Ram Singh.
