New Delhi: US President Donald Trump vowed a forceful response to Iran, after the country launched ballistic missiles on US bases in Jordan. Speaking to Fox News on Wednesday, Trump said, “We are going to beat the f***s*** out of them.”
Trump further said, “We are going to hit them hard. They are going to get a beating.”
According to the President, the US forces had only minutes to respond to the “surprise attack.” They however managed to intercept the missiles before it could reach its target, said Trump. He claimed that he had seen footage showing US troops calling out coordinates during real time during the interception.
Trump reacted after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) targeted Jordan’s Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, a key US military hub and Central Command facility in Jordan. The Iranian State media carried a statement of the IRGC Aerospace Force, which read that it had “launched several ballistic missiles” at the US Army Airbase and Central Command centre in Jordan.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the IRGC said that this was a response to the aggressive actions of the United States.
The IRGC further said that as long as threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran continue and illegal and evil actions by American forces against our interests continue, the resistance will continue.
The Jordanian military also confirmed the attack. They said that they intercepted and destroyed at least 5 Iranian missiles and also added that there was no damage to the bases.
US responds to Iranian strike on Jordan airbasesIn response to the Iranian attack on its airbases in Jordan, the US together with Saudi Arabia launched strikes on Iranian backed militias in Iraq. The USsaid that the operation was carried out in coordination with the Iraqi government.
Reports said that 4 IRGC military advisors were killed in the overnight US attacks. Apart from that 20 fighters also died in this military operation.
The US confirmed the strikes, saying that the Central Command, together with the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces, targeted Iran-backed militias in Iraq. They claimed to have hit locations used for logistics and weapons operations.
CENTCOM said that the strikes were conducted on July 28.
