The Indian boxing team had an outstanding day at the Commonwealth Games 2026, with five boxers advancing to the semifinals, ensuring medal opportunities and maintaining hopes for gold. On Wednesday, during Day 7 of the Games in Glasgow, Sakshi Chaudhary, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach, Ankush, and Narender Berwal all celebrated impressive victories in their quarterfinal matches.

Sakshi Chaudhary's Impressive Victory

Sakshi Chaudhary kicked off the day by securing her place in the women's 51kg semifinals, defeating Caitlyn Fryers from Northern Ireland with a decisive 5-0 unanimous decision. Coming into the Games in excellent form, Sakshi showcased her skills by winning all three rounds with identical scores, effectively using her movement and precise punches to keep Fryers under pressure. This victory guarantees her a medal, and she will face Canada's Amber-Jane Wall in the semifinals on Friday.

Arundhati Choudhary Advances

Arundhati Choudhary also made her mark by reaching the women's 70kg semifinals after a hard-fought victory over New Zealand's Morgan Henderson. In a closely contested match, Arundhati edged the first round 3-2 and took control in the second. Despite Henderson's aggressive tactics, Arundhati maintained her composure, winning the third round 3-1, thus securing her spot in the semifinals and ensuring a medal.

Sachin Siwach's Dominance

Sachin Siwach reached the men's 60kg semifinals after a unanimous decision victory against Botswana's Treasure Moremi. From the start, Sachin displayed dominance, landing a powerful left hook early on and controlling the match's pace. Despite a brief stoppage due to Moremi's injury, Sachin maintained his focus, winning all rounds decisively. He will now face Wales' Owain Harris-Allan in the semifinals.

Ankush and Narender's Progress

Both Ankush and Narender Berwal also advanced to the semifinals. Ankush triumphed over Seychelles' Jade Micock with a 5-0 victory in the men's 80kg quarterfinal, showcasing aggressive punches and effective movement throughout the bout. Narender secured his semifinal spot in the men's 90+kg category after a narrow 3-2 split decision win against Samoa's Michael Seko, ensuring another medal for India.

India's Medal Count at CWG 2026

As of now, India has achieved a total of 12 medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026, comprising two gold, seven silver, and three bronze. Notable medallists include Mirabai Chanu and Sharmila Dhankar, both securing gold in their respective events.
