India earned a double podium in men’s 100m T47 as para athletes Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Basil took the gold and silver medal respectively at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Wednesday.
Gavit ran a strong Games record of 10.71s to with a wind aid of +2.0 m/s to finish on top of the podium, while Basil closely followed with his own season’s best of 10.83s for the silver medal.
It is India’s second double podium of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, just days after Sharmila Dhankar and Shilpa achieved the feat in women’s shot put F57.
Gavit’s gold medal win also marked the first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal for India in a track para athletics event.
Gavit, who had to have his right hand amputated, cruised through in the final 20 metres with a splendid finish to clinch the gold medal in what was an eight-athlete field.
Basil, meanwhile, held his own in a tough field to complete the historic gold-silver finish for India.
