70 hours work week was prescribed. Narayanamurthy’s company Infosys (Infosys) got the biggest punishment because of that diagnosis! It is known that the French administration has fined the IT company about 2 crore rupees. Among their complaints, Infosys employees are working overtime beyond the stipulated time. It is against French law. Netizens did not stop making funny comments on the whole incident.
The fine was imposed on Infosys by France’s local administration, the Drites Ile de France, which is responsible for worker protection. According to French labor law, workers will work 35 hours a week. According to sources, the Indian IT organization has violated that rule. But Infosys did not disclose the reason for the fine. The company claims that the fine imposed will not cause financial loss to Infosys. Other activities will not be affected.
As soon as this news came out, there was a storm of memes and reels in the net world. In the words of a netizen, ‘Time changes like this. Human thinking deteriorates. So it is better to keep your mouth shut than try to change the rules without judging the situation. Otherwise, the IT leader looks silly after a while. That happened with Narayanamurthy too.’ According to some, ‘One of the reasons why Indians are leaving the country for Europe is the labor laws there. Working hours are fixed there.’
Notably, Narayanamurthy said while speaking on a podcast, India’s work culture needs a big change. The youth must work 70 hours a week. In his words, “India’s labor productivity is the lowest in the world.” In this situation, 77-year-old Narayanamurthy advises, “I think the youth must say, this is my country. I want to work 70 hours.” After that, the controversy started. Later, he was seen to establish his own opinion on this matter. But this time Narayanamurthy’s ‘orthodoxy’ dealt a big blow.
