Japan was rocked by a powerful earthquake on Tuesday. The quake measured 7.1 on the Richter scale. A tsunami warning was issued across Japan immediately after the earthquake. Shopping malls, houses collapsed overnight in Kumamoto region. At least 18 deaths have been reported so far. At least 62 serious injuries.

The worst damage was reported at the “Aion Mall” shopping center in Kashima city. Thousands of people were present during the earthquake. In another part of the mall, where some people were still working, about 3,000 shoppers were evacuated to a parking lot before the gas explosion, authorities said. Many people were trapped as the second floor of the mall collapsed. Eyewitnesses said that the intensity of the explosion shook the entire area.

Due to which three local nuclear reactors were damaged. Radioactive particles spread in the area. Fukushima is the worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl. After that incident, the Japanese government shut down all 54 nuclear reactors. Subsequently several reactors were commissioned to meet the fuel demand in the country.
