Darlington Osuchukwu, 16, has completed his transfer from Manchester United to Athletic, confirming the move on Tuesday through his social media account.
According to AS, the goalkeeper has signed a three-year deal. His agency, Majestyk Sports Management, also posted photographs of him with his family at San Mamés.
In his message, Osuchukwu spoke of his immense pride at beginning a new chapter at a club with a strong tradition, and thanked his family for supporting him throughout his journey.
Osuchukwu has represented both Spain and England at Under-17 level and developed through Gazte Berriak in Navarre. Born in Murcia in 2009, he moved to Navarre at the age of five and started out at Ansoain, near Pamplona.
His family moved to London in 2021, with Osasuna having tried to sign him before that relocation. He subsequently joined the Manchester United academy.
A fortnight ago, he said goodbye to United, thanking the club for four unforgettable years, and he now joins up at Lezama in keeping with Athletic’s emphasis on nurturing young talent. Players have already responded to his arrival, with Iñaki Williams liking his post and winger Elijah Gift welcoming him. The move follows a pathway similar to Gift’s own transfer from Liverpool for €1.2 million in May 2023.
