The most significant change introduced by the MCC in the MBBS counseling process concerns candidates who secure a seat in a round but wish to upgrade to a better college or course in the subsequent round.

NEET UG 2026 Counseling Updates: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has implemented several key changes to the NEET UG counseling process this year. These changes aim to make the admission process simpler, more transparent, and fully digital. With the new rules in place, tasks related to seat upgrades, seat withdrawals, and the NRI quota can now be handled online. This eliminates the need for students to repeatedly visit medical colleges, thereby saving both time and money.

No Need to Report to the College for Seat Upgrades

The most significant change introduced by the MCC in the MBBS counseling process concerns candidates who secure a seat in a round but wish to upgrade to a better college or course in the subsequent round. Such candidates will no longer be required to physically report to the allotted medical college merely to secure their seat. Under the new system, their current seat will remain secured within the counseling system, allowing them to participate in the upgrade process for the next round. This will provide considerable relief to students who face financial or other difficulties in traveling to distant colleges.

Online Seat Withdrawal Facility

The MCC has also introduced an online withdrawal facility for the counseling process, allowing eligible candidates to withdraw their seats within the stipulated timeframe directly via the MCC portal. Previously, surrendering a seat required a personal visit to the respective medical college. With the new system, this process will be entirely online, saving both the candidate's time and effort.

NRI Quota Documents to be Uploaded on the Portal

The process has also been simplified for candidates applying under the NRI quota in deemed universities. Required documents can now be uploaded directly to the MCC's online portal. Previously, document verification involved additional formalities that prolonged the process. Meanwhile, the facility for online document verification is expected to make the verification process simpler and more transparent.

Directives for States

The MCC has also instructed the counseling agencies of all states and Union Territories to make information regarding medical college seats, fees, available courses, and other essential details easily accessible to students. The objective is to ensure that candidates can select colleges and courses based on accurate information during the counseling process.
