Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has, uh made a rather surprising domestic move ahead of the 2026-27 season. As a player free to represent any state, Zampa has switched from New South Wales over to the Queensland Bulls , after getting the go-ahead from Cricket Australia (CA).

The 34-year-old lives around Byron Bay on the north coast of New South Wales so Queensland is likely the more practical option for training, travel, and all that day to day routine. Before signing on with the Bulls, Zampa spent seven seasons with South Australia, so Queensland becomes the third domestic team in his career.

Queensland Cricket’s high-performance boss, Bennett King, thinks Adam Zampa will bring real quality to the squad while also passing along that seasoned know-how to the group under new head coach James Hopes. Kinda the full package.

Zampa will join Queensland once his campaign with London Spirit in The Hundred wraps up. He also lines up as one of four Cricket Australia-contracted players in the Bulls squad, alongside Marnus Labuschagne, Michael Neser, and Xavier Bartlett.

However, the experienced spinner is probably going to show up only a handful of times early in the season, because Australia will go on to tour Zimbabwe and South Africa for ODI matches first, before hosting England in a white-ball series.

Even with that limited calendar, Queensland have still managed to secure one of Australia’s most seasoned white-ball bowlers. Adam Zampa is expected to play a key part for the Bulls whenever he is around during the domestic season.

Since that international debut back in 2016, Zampa has really settled into the role of being one of Australia’s top white-ball wicket takers. He has grabbed 198 wickets in 121 ODIs, running at an average of 29.34, and his best spell stands at 5/35. For T20Is, he’s collected 153 wickets across 118 games, at 20.35 per wicket while holding an economy rate of 7.36.

Throughout his career , Zampa has turned up for a bunch of franchises , like Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals, Melbourne Stars ,and London Spirit . In the IPL, he’s picked up 31 wickets across 22 matches, and his best spell is still the one with 6/19.

Also, Zampa has kind of admitted that his chances of playing Test cricket are now , mostly done. Earlier this year he said that his red-ball dreams sort of faded after he missed Australia’s squad for the Sri Lanka tour. The seasoned leg-spinner has managed only one first-class appearance in the last three seasons, which feels pretty telling.
