New Milan head coach Ruben Amorim is looking for reinforcements as he prepares for his first season in Serie A.

Although he deployed his preferred 3-4-2-1 system against Celtic in the Rossoneri’s first pre-season friendly, the 2–2 draw showed there is still a considerable distance to cover before the side can head into next season with real confidence.

Midfield continues to be one of the main areas of concern, particularly because of Amorim’s tactical demands. With that in mind, there is one experienced midfielder the coach is eager to bring to San Siro.

According to Calciomercato, Amorim is interested in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Transfermarkt values him at €15 million. The 30-year-old Denmark international has been one of Ligue 1’s most dependable deep-lying midfielders since joining Marseille from Spurs two summers ago.

However, before Milan can move for him, they will need to offload some players in midfield. Samuele Ricci and Youssouf Fofana are both being strongly linked with exits from the club.

Hojbjerg’s contract at Marseille, where he earns a gross annual salary of €6.36 million per year, runs until June 2028.

Hojbjerg heads into the new season with both experience and form in his favour. At his current market valuation, he would represent a relatively safe option for Amorim’s Milan setup.

Even before his spell at OM, Hojbjerg had long been seen as a player capable of delivering dependable performances in a deep midfield role. His intensity and stamina would also help Amorim maintain the level required by his tactical approach.

Milan may have to sell midfielders before making a move for him, but if they are able to create the conditions for a deal, they should seriously pursue it.
