Traditionally, guards and sentries stationed at palaces, forts, and defense establishments are rotated at regular intervals to allow new soldiers to take over duties. This 30-minute ceremony, held every Saturday, symbolizes the formal transfer of responsibility among the guards. During this event, the guards and sentries are periodically changed, reflecting a long-standing military custom.
Enhancements to the Ceremony
At the President's House, the ceremonial army guard battalion provides formal guards and sentries for the President of India. Recently, efforts have been made to revamp this ceremony to make it more appealing and accessible to the general public. The ceremony has now been relocated to the forecourt of the President's House, making it easier for visitors to attend.
