The President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), PT Usha, expressed her delight regarding India's achievements at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow. The nation has secured a total of 15 medals thus far, comprising three gold, nine silver, and three bronze medals.

Praise for Athletes and Support Systems

In a conversation with a news outlet, PT Usha commended the athletes for their remarkable performance, noting that the 15 medals signify the advancement of Indian athletics. She acknowledged the accomplishments across various events and lauded both para-athletes and able-bodied competitors. Usha attributed this success to the collaborative efforts of the government, the IOA, and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), emphasizing a unified 'Team India' strategy that has led to improved outcomes.

Anticipation for Future Success

"I am thrilled that we have achieved 15 medals so far, and I believe more will follow. All athletes, including para-athletes, are part of Team India. Securing medals in athletics is challenging, yet we have excelled in events like long jump, high jump, 10,000 meters, and shot put, winning gold and bronze in several categories," she stated.

'Team India' Approach Behind Success

PT Usha highlighted that the enhanced performance of Indian athletes is a result of robust support systems, with the government, IOA, and SAI collaborating to offer better training, international exposure, and essential facilities. She expressed confidence that this athlete-centric approach will lead to even greater success, especially with India set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

Looking Ahead to 2030 Commonwealth Games

"When we host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, I expect an even greater medal tally. Unlike my era, the current government is providing excellent support to athletes, catering to their needs for international exposure, training, and recovery. The IOA is also focusing on an athlete-centric system. With the government, IOA, and SAI working in unison, we are truly one team, Team India. This collaboration is key to our success," she remarked.
