Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian para athletes – Dilip Mahadu Gavit and Mohammed Basil Morsingnakathi for winning gold and silver medals respectively in the men's T47 100m event at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Along with this, PM Modi also praised Murali Srishankar, who won the silver medal for the second consecutive time in the men's long jump event.

At the end of the seventh day, India has 15 medals including 3 gold.

India concluded its campaign on the seventh day of sporting events with these three medals (one gold and two silver) on Wednesday. The Indian contingent has so far won a total of 15 medals (three gold, nine silver and three bronze) and at the end of the seventh day it stood eighth in the medal tally. Whereas leading Australia has completed 100 medals. By the end of Wednesday, he had 103 medals (47-21-35) in his account. Canada is in second place with 39 medals (14-11-14) while England has won 56 medals (12-27-17).

Gavit and Basil gave historic 1-2 finnish

Dilip Mahadu Gavit won the gold medal in the men's T47 100m event with a games record timing of 10.71 seconds while Mohammed Basil Morsingnakathi won the silver medal with his season's best of 10.83 seconds. With this achievement India registered a historic 1-2 finish.

Congratulating Dilip Mahadu Gavit on social media platform 'X', Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he created a new Games record by winning the gold medal in the men's T47 100 meters event with a brilliant time and gave his best performance of the season. The Prime Minister said that Gavit's speed, determination and dedication have made the country proud and wished him all the best for his bright future.

Mohammad Basil's hard work and passion also appreciated

Congratulating Mohammed Basil Morsingnakathi on winning the silver medal, PM Modi said that he showed great sprint and determination. He said that this success achieved by giving his best performance of the season is the result of his hard work and focus and similar achievements are expected from him in future also.

Sreeshankar won silver in the second consecutive Commonwealth Games

The Prime Minister also congratulated Murali Sreeshankar, who won the silver medal in the men's long jump event with a best jump of 8.09 metres. This is his second consecutive silver medal in the Commonwealth Games. Earlier, he had won a silver medal in Birmingham 2022 with a jump of 8.08 metres.

Youth will be inspired by Shri Shankar's achievement: Prime Minister

PM Modi said that Sreeshankar performed brilliantly, tried his best and won the silver medal. He expressed confidence that Sreeshankar's success will inspire the youth of the country to perform better in athletics and wished him all the best for his future.
