This decision signifies the conclusion of a remarkable chapter in Indian batting that flourished during the 2010s, building upon the legacies of icons such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, and VVS Laxman.

In a cricketing landscape dominated by superstars like Rohit and Virat, affectionately known as 'Ro-Ko', and the trophy-collecting captain MS Dhoni, Rahane consistently showcased his skills. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he played 90 matches and scored 2,962 runs in 87 innings, achieving 3 centuries and 24 fifties, with an average of 35.26 and a strike rate of 78.63.

His T20 International (T20I) record includes 20 matches and 20 innings, where he scored 375 runs, with one fifty and an average of 20.83, alongside a strike rate of 113.29.
