According to reports, Manchester United are ready to take advantage of Newcastle United’s current situation by trying to sign England international Lewis Hall.

Newcastle are going through yet another hugely difficult summer after losing Alexander Isak and failing to land several high-profile targets ahead of the 2025/26 season.

This transfer window is turning out to be even more damaging for Newcastle, who have already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali to Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur after missing out on European qualification.

It has now also been reported that head coach Eddie Howe is set to leave Newcastle, with the club already having his successor lined up.

Further departures may also follow in the next few days, with Bruno Guimaraes aiming for a move to Premier League champions Arsenal and Hall being linked with a switch to Manchester United.

So far this summer, the Red Devils have brought in Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow.

Manchester United are expected to add one more midfielder in the coming weeks, and they could also move for a new left-back.

United require another left-back to compete with Luke Shaw, who cannot be depended upon across a full season when the club are involved in multiple competitions. He is also entering the final year of his contract and will need replacing.

Earlier this month, a report stated that Hall is Manchester United’s leading option to become Shaw’s long-term successor, while the Newcastle player is also believed to be keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Now, a report claims Hall is keen on joining Manchester United, partly because he wants to leave Newcastle United.

Hall is said to have been unhappy at Newcastle after feeling that his positional switch towards the end of last season cost him a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

Manchester United are therefore said to be considering a raid on Newcastle for Hall as they prepare to capitalise on the disarray at St James’ Park.

The report adds:

‘United want to bring in a left-sided player and are now prepared to cash in on teenage left back Harry Amass. The struggle to sell Marcus Rashford, United’s highest earner on £325,000 a week, effectively prohibits United from recruiting a left-wing specialist. United have several specialist and auxiliary left backs but Shaw recently turned 31 and lacks an outright competitor.’
