New Delhi: More than 11 Pakistani security officers have been reported to be killed after militants attacked a police checkpost in the country’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province located in its northwestern region. The gunmen killed 15 militants who initiated the attack in Hangu district, which borders Afghanistan.

Attack on Police Checkpost

The attack was conducted by militants who were heavily armed against the Khazina police checkpost. The militants engaged in a heavy firefight for about one hour.

According to reports, reinforcements were rushed to the scene following the outbreak of the attack. The reinforcement failed to reach the scene because the convoy was ambushed and an armored vehicle was damaged in the attack.

Nevertheless, the security officers continued fighting and finally managed to fend off the attackers.

Suspicions Surround Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan

While no militant group had taken responsibility for this attack at the time of writing, the Pakistani government suspected Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a banned militant group due to its recent history of attacking security installations in the area.

The group is referred to by the government of Pakistan as “Fitna al Khawarij.”

Security Threats Remain High

This particular incident demonstrates that the security threats facing Pakistan in its border areas continue. There have been numerous attacks against the police and army in the areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which are close to the country of Afghanistan despite ongoing anti-terrorism operations.

The identities of those killed and whether there were any further measures ordered by the security services in response to this attack were not revealed.
