American talks about India's low-cost, high-end healthcare experience, says in the US 'it's 10 times the price'

US man ditches America for healthcare in India In a shared on Instagram, Gabe talked about how India’s healthcare costs him only a fraction of what he would pay in his home country. “Before I go back to the US, I need to get a medical check-up. So I’ve got my escorts here; let’s go. I love India, dude,” he said in the video. His choice also reflects a global trend. Residents from developed countries are turning to India for quality treatment at prices that feel almost unreal. The man revealed that he got an annual health check-up, a nutrition genetics test, and genetic testing in India.

Affordability and quality

In the caption, the man acknowledged that it was the best medical care he had received to date. “Best medical treatment I’ve ever gotten,” he said.

Medical tourism is flourishing in India, with many world-class hospitals, diagnostics, and treatments available in the country. India ranks 10th among the top 46 medical tourism destinations globally, according to the Medical Tourism Index 2020–21. The country stands fifth among the top 10 wellness destinations in the Asia–Pacific region. India is also twelfth among the world’s top 20 wellness tourism markets. Patients from other countries primarily travel to India for specialised treatments such as cardiac surgery, orthopaedic procedures, cancer treatment, and cosmetic surgery, according to the Ministry of Tourism. The medical tourism market was estimated at $8.7 billion in 2025, with projections of $16.2 billion by 2030.
